LYNCHBURG STAYS UNBEATEN WITH 6-1 SOCCER WIN OVER GUILFORD

Lynchburg, VA (9/12/99) — Lynchburg College remained undefeated with a 6-1 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) victory over Guilford College a warm Sunday afternoon at Shellenberger Field. The Hornets' fifth straight improved their ODAC record to 2-0, while the Quakers fell to 0-4 and 0-1 in the ODAC.

Karen O'Connor (Florham Park, NJ/Hanover Park) scored four minutes into the game and was quickly followed by a tally by forward Nikki Wisniewski (Berlin, NJ/Bishop Eustace). Kristen Kowit (Lakewood, NJ/Red Bank) set up the second Lynchburg goal and finished the afternoon with two assists and the game's final goal with 15:42 left to play.

Guilford sophomore Amy Evans (New Bern, NC/ New Bern) knocked home a rebound of junior forward Kerrie Campbell's (Greensboro, NC/Grimsley) shot off the crossbar with 31 minutes left in the second half to avert the shutout. Evans' team-leading second goal of the year marked the first allowed by Lynchburg in 1999.

Guilford junior goalkeeper Jenny Akman (Washington DC/Georgetown Day) registered a career-high 31 saves in defeat.  She became Guilford's career saves leader, surpassing Thayle Jackson '97, who held the former record of 237.  Akman now has 267 career stops in 29 matches.
