GUILFORD ENDS LOSING STREAK WITH ODAC SOCCER WIN AT HOLLINS

Roanoke, VA (10/22/99) — Junior forward Kerrie Campbell (Greensboro, NC/Grimsley) broke a 1-1 tie in the 41st minute to lift visiting Guilford to a 2-1 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) win over Hollins University Friday. The win snaps Guilford's season-high six-game losing streak and maintains the team's hopes for a berth in next week's ODAC Tournament.

Hollins (2-10, 1-0 ODAC) got on the board on in the ninth minute on a tally by Amanda Freeman. The Quakers (5-12, 3-7 ODAC) answered when sophomore Amy Evans (New Bern, NC/New Bern) converted a pass from senior forward Melissa McKallagat (Holden, MA/Stoneleigh-Burnham) with six minutes remaining in the first half. Evans, the ODAC's leading scorer, tied her own school record for single-season goals with her 18th tally of the year. She also moved to within two points of breaking Alison Schott's '99 career scoring record with her 80th and 81st career points. McKallagat, a converted goaltender, recorded her first career assist.

Campbell found the back of the net with her 15th goal of the year two minutes later to give the Quakers the lead. Sophomore back Melissa Urann (Plymouth, MA/Falmouth Academy) notched her first career assist on the goal.

Guilford goaltender Jenny Akman (Washington, DC/Georgetwon Day School) made 10 saves to preserve the win.

The Quakers close out the season Sunday at league-rival Randolph-Macon Woman's College at 2:30. A victory assures Guilford of its ninth consecutive berth in the eight-team ODAC Tournament.
