PRIDE DEFEATS QUAKERS IN FIRST WOMEN'S SOCCER GAME, 2-1

Greensboro, NC (9/01/99) — Sophomore Krystal Luebke (Greensboro, NC/Western Guilford) and an own goal provided all Greensboro College needed Wednesday afternoon to beat cross town rival Guilford, 2-1, in the 1999 women's soccer season opener for both teams.

The Pride's first goal came at the 27-minute mark in the first half as freshman Shanna Morton's (Walnut Cove, NC/South Stokes) shot deflected off of Guilford freshman Kasie Gray (White River Junction, VT/Rastk Hartford) and into the back of the net. Two minutes into the second half, Luebke scored from 18 yards out to give Greensboro a 2-0 lead. Sophomore Amy Evans (New Bern, NC/New Bern) helped Guilford avoid the shutout by converting a penalty kick with six minutes left to play. Evans had another shot hit the post midway through the second period.

Guilford meets University of the South Saturday at 1:00 pm before entertaining ninth-ranked Emory University Sunday at 1:00 pm.
