EMORY SHUTS OUT GUILFORD IN THE RAIN, 5-0

Greensboro, NC (9/06/99) — Five second-half goals helped ninth-ranked Emory University (1-0-1) to its first win of the young 1999 season on a rain-soaked Haworth Field Sunday afternoon. Guilford (0-3) held the Eagles scoreless for 45 minutes, but two goals each by freshmen Annie Schenck (Cincinnati, OH/Indian Hill) and Sarah Fairchild (Warren, RI/St. Mark's School) led to the Quakers' third straight loss.

Schenck put the Eagles on the board in the 53rd minute with an unassisted goal. One minute later an own goal put Emory up by two. Sophomore Lauren Mayros (New Port Richey, FL/River Ridge) fed Fairchild for both of her goals later in the half.

Guilford junior goalkeeper Jenny Akman (Washington, DC/Georgetown Day) recorded 20 saves on the afternoon while the Quakers were outshot 45-8 in the game.
