DAVIS NETS TWO IN BRIDGEWATER WOMEN'S SOCCER VICTORY AT GUILFORD

Greensboro, NC (9/19/99) — Freshman Ariel Davis (Elkins, WV/Elkins) netted two goals in Bridgewater College's 3-2 Old Dominion Athletic Conference win over Guilford Sunday afternoon.

Davis put the Eagles (2-4, 1-4 ODAC) on the board with her first goal of the afternoon in the 37th minute with a 19-yard blast into the top right corner of the goal. Guilford College tied the less than two minutes later with a breakaway goal by junior forward Kerrie Campbell (Greensboro, NC/Grimsley).

With the score tied at 1-1 at the half, Bridgewater scored back-to-back goals just over three minutes apart to open up a 3-1 advantage. Davis hit for her second goal of the game in the 76th minute and freshman forward Sarah McClellan (Bowie, MD/Annapolis Area Christian) netted what proved to be the game-winner just in the 79th minute.

With Guilford playing two players down due to injury, Campbell got loose in front of the goal for her second goal of the game with 3:36 left to play, but Guilford couldn't connect on any other last-minute scoring chances.

Bridgewater goalkeeper Julianne Blevins (Pylesville, MD/North Harford) had seven saves between the pipes for the Eagles, while Guilford's Jenny Akman (Washington, DC/Georgetown Day) made 10 stops for the Quakers.
