GUILFORD WOMEN'S SOCCER PLAYERS NAMED TO ALL-ODAC TEAM

Greensboro, NC (11/11/99) -- Guilford College junior Kerrie Campbell (Greensboro, NC/Grimsley) and sophomore Amy Evans (New Bern, NC/New Bern) earned second team All-Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) soccer honors, the league announced Thursday. The announcement marks the third consecutive year that two Guilford players received all-conference awards.

Campbell, a forward, received her first selection to the all-conference team in her first year with the soccer team. A two-year basketball letter winner, Campbell made a strong impact on the soccer pitch with 16 goals and four assists for 36 points on the season. She finished second to Evans among Guilford and ODAC scoring leaders and the pair shared the league's goals per game title (1.00). Campbell's 36 points mark the fifth-highest single season total in school history. She scored the game-winning goal in Guilford's 2-1 overtime win over Emory & Henry September 15 and netted a career-high three goals in the Quakers' triumphs over Sweet Briar (9/22) and Wesleyan (9/26). Campbell tallied 13 goals and three assists in a seven-game stretch from September 15 to October 2.

Evans.jpg (3745 bytes)Evans earned second team all-league honors for the second consecutive season thanks to her 19 goals and six assists (44 points) in 19 games. She became Guilford's career goal-scoring leader with 37 goals and tied the school's career scoring mark of 83 set by Alison Schott '99. Evans broke the school's single-season points and goals records and led the league in both categories. The center midfielder scored in 13 of the Quakers' 19 games and recorded hat tricks against Sweet Briar (9/22), Wesleyan (9/26) and Averett (9/30). Against Sweet Briar, she tallied a season-high eight points (3g, 2a) in the 7-1 win.

The duo helped the Quakers through an injury-plagued season that saw the team play with the minimum of 11 players for most of the year. Coach Ken Glardon's club finished with a 6-13 overall record and a 4-7 ODAC mark. The Quakers placed in eighth in the conference during the regular season and reached the ODAC Tournament for the ninth straight year. Guilford loses only two players to graduation and Campbell and Evans will be two of 11 returning letter winners for the 2000 season.
