RANDOLPH-MACON STIFLES GUILFORD WOMEN, 78-52

Greensboro, NC (12/5/98) -- Senior guard Aimee Beightol (Roanoke, VA/Cave Spring) scored a game-high 18 points and wreaked havoc in Guilford's backcourt with eight steals as visiting Randolph-Macon (3-2, 2-0 ODAC) defeated the Quakers (2-3, 1-1 ODAC), 78-52, in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) action Saturday afternoon. An oppressive Yellow Jackets' defense forced 24 Guilford turnovers and limited the hosts to 30.4 percent field-goal shooting.

Beightol made seven of her thefts and scored 13 points in the first half as the Yellow Jackets took advantage of 17 first-half Guilford turnovers to open a 34-24 halftime lead. Sophomore forward Jamie Tanner (Webster Springs, WV/Webster County) hit two three-pointers in an 18-8 Yellow Jackets' run that started the second half and expanded the visitors' lead to 52-32 with 14:22 remaining. Randolph-Macon maintained its defensive intensity the rest of the way and led by as many as 31 points in the second half.

Junior center Renee Zando (Yorktown, VA/Tabb) scored 15 points and led all rebounders with 15 for Randolph-Macon. Tanner finished with 13 points, 11 in the second half, and had a game-high five assists.

Guilford sophomore Arden Miller (Landenberg, PA/Sanford School (DE)) posted her fifth straight game in double-digit scoring with a team-high 13 points plus seven rebounds. Rookie guard Erin Beacham (Atlanta, GA/Lovett) tallied 10 markers while sophomore center Anna Hynes (Rockville, MD/Magruder) made her 1998-99 debut with eight points and a team-best nine boards.

Guilford returns to action Tuesday night (12/8) against crosstown rival Greensboro College in the Greensboro Coliseum at 5:30 pm. A Guilford-Greensboro men's game follows at 7:30 pm. Randolph-Macon hosts league-rival Lynchburg Tuesday night at 7:00 pm.
