PHIFER LEADS PFEIFFER TO WOMEN'S HOOPS WIN OVER GUILFORD

Greensboro, NC (11/23) -- Junior center Candace Phifer (Fort Mill, SC) led all players with 21 points and 15 rebounds which lifted Division II Pfeiffer (1-1) to a 77-56 win over Division III Guilford Monday night. Phifer scored 13 points and grabbed 11 rebounds in the first half as the visiting Falcons scored 28 of the game's first 33 points on the way to a 50-20 halftime lead.

The Falcons' lead grew to as many as 34 points early in the second half before Guilford used an 11-1 run to pull within 24 points (61-37) with 10:51 left in the game. The final 21-point margin was the game's smallest since the seven-minute mark of the first half.

Pfeiffer sophomore guard Mindy Kostorick (Pittsburgh, PA) reached double-figure scoring with 14 points as all 10 Pfeiffer players netted at least one field goal. Sophomore guard Brandee Dodson (Fort Royal, VA) tallied six points and dished out a game-high eight assists for the Falcons. Pfeiffer held a 58-35 rebounding advantage and limited the Quakers to 30% shooting from the floor.

Sophomore forward Arden Miller (Landenberg, PA/Sanford School (DE)) led Guilford with a career-high 19 points, including three three-point baskets. Sophomore forward Marlo Biernacki (Alden, NY/Alden Central) contributed eight points while rookie guard Amy Evans (New Bern, NC/New Bern) added six points, nine rebounds, five assists and a game-high five steals.

Guilford returns to action this Sunday (11/29) when it hosts Baldwin-Wallace at 2:00 p.m.
