Greensboro, NC (1/23/99) -- Freshman Berry Lowden (Rome, GA/Darlington School) scored off a rebound of her own miss with 28 seconds left to lift visiting Washington and Lee to a 63-61 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) women's basketball win over Guilford Saturday afternoon in the nightcap of an ODAC basketball doubleheader.

Visiting Bridgewater got 20 second-half points from junior Brad Harrington (Richmond, VA/Monacan) and held Guilford scoreless for the final 3:13 to take a 77-66 victory in the men's opening game.

The Washington and Lee (5-9, 4-6 ODAC) victory snapped Guilford's (6-8, 5-5 ODAC) four-game winning streak and marked the Generals' first win over the Quakers in 10 meetings, dating to 1994. Washington and Lee freshman Alison Kudlacik (Manalapan, NJ/Manalapan) scored 15 of her game- and career-high 21 points in the second half as the visiting Generals overcame an 12-point second-half deficit with 7:29 to go.

Kudlacik scored five points during a 12-0 Washington and Lee run to tie the game at 58-58 with 4:11 to play. An Erin Beacham (Atlanta, GA/Lovett School) three-pointer gave the Quakers a 61-58 lead with 3:56 remaining, but Kudlacik made two free throws and freshman Jessica Mentz (Ellicott City, MD/Centennial) (16 points) added another to tie the game at 61-61 and set up Lowden's winning hoop.

Beacham led three Quakers in double-digit scoring with 18 points. Sophomore guard Kerrie Campbell (Greensboro, NC/Grimsley) and sophomore forward Arden Miller Landenberg, PA/Sanford School (DE)) each added 12 points in defeat.

In Saturday's opening game, Guilford (3-13, 2-9 ODAC) erased a 12-point second-half deficit and claimed a 64-63 lead with 4:02 to play, but went cold as the Eagles outscored Guilford 14-2 over the last four minutes. The Quakers last held the lead with 3:13 left on a Brad Woolley (Chapel Hill, NC/East Chapel Hill) jumper, but Bridgewater's Harrington responded with six straight points to give the Eagles a 71-66 lead. The visitors made all seven free throws down the stretch to secure the victory.

Harrington shared game-high scoring honors with Guilford sophomore Matt Welborn (Salisbury, NC/West Rowan), who came off the bench to hit four three-pointers on the way to a career-high 22 points. Bridgewater senior Travis Whetzel (Harrisonburg, VA/Harrisonburg) also hit four trifectas on the way to 16 points. Eagles rookie center Kyle Williford (Raleigh, NC/Leesville) scored 10 points and grabbed a team-best nine rebounds.

Guilford sophomores Jon Evans (Mooresville, NC/Mooresville) and David Zelickson (Charlotte, NC/Charlotte Country Day) scored 14 and 12 points, respectively.

Guilford's men play at league-rival Lynchburg Monday night (1/25) while the women visit Lynchburg Tuesday night (1/26).
