GUILFORD DOWNS HOLLINS, 87-41, FOR FOURTH STRAIGHT WIN

Greensboro, NC (1/21/99) -- All 10 Guilford players scored in the Quakers' convincing 87-41 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) women's basketball win over visiting Hollins Thursday night. The win extended Guilford's winning streak to a season-high four games and kept its record versus Hollins perfect at 17-0.

After a tentative start, Guilford (6-7, 5-4 ODAC) used a 24-2 run over the middle of the first half on the way to a 44-20 halftime advantage. Hollins (1-11, 0-9 ODAC) never drew closer than 19 points the rest of the way as Guilford notched its largest margin of victory of the season.

The Quakers put a season-high five players in double-figure scoring on the way to a season-high 87 points. Guilford's Amy Evans (New Bern, NC/New Bern), Arden Miller (Landenberg, PA/Sanford School (DE)) and Alison Schott (Lyons, NY/Lyons) shared game-high scoring honors with 14 points apiece. Rookie guard Erin Beacham (Atlanta, GA/Lovett School) added 10 points and a career-high seven steals. Guilford sophomore Kerrie Campbell (Greensboro, NC/Grimsley) totalled nine points, seven assists and a game- and career-high 10 rebounds.

Four of the Quakers' four six freshmen recorded career-best performances in their most extensive playing time of the season. Forward Deidre Riffe (Kernersville, NC/Glenn) had six points and six rebounds off the bench while forward Melissa Urann (Plymouth, MA/Falmouth Academy) added four points. Rookies Amanda Spencer (Plainfield, NH/Kimball Union Academy) (two points) and Lisa Beckham (Lilburn, GA/Rabun Gap-Nacoochee School) (four points) both made their initial Guilford appearances in the win.

Hollins freshman Samantha Webb (Roanoke, VA/Northside) made all five shots from the floor, including a three-pointer, for a team-high 11 points. Sophomore Rosee' Hopkins (Roanoke, VA/Northside) added eight points and a club-best eight boards.

Guilford closes out a five-game homestand Saturday afternoon (1/23) against ODAC rival Washington and Lee at 4:00 p.m., while Hollins entertains Eastern Mennonite Saturday afternoon at 2:00 p.m.
