GUILFORD WOMEN WIN FOURTH STRAIGHT GAME

Box Score

Greensboro, NC (12/07/99) -- Junior Arden Miller (Landenberg, PA/Sanford School (DE)) led five Guilford players in double-figure scoring with 20 points as the host Quakers streaked to an 83-41 victory over Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) rival Randolph-Macon Woman's College Tuesday night. Junior guard Kerrie Campbell (Greensboro, NC/Grimsley) added 13 points and a career-high nine steals for the Quakers in their home opener and fourth straight win.

The victory is the 300th in Guilford school history.  The Quakers are 300-320 in over 26 seasons of intercollegiate competition, dating to the 1973-74 season.

After a sluggish shooting start, Guilford (4-1, 2-0 ODAC) warmed up midway through the first half and reeled off a 13-2 run to open a 10-point lead, which grew to a 39-24 halftime advantage. The Wildcats (1-5, 1-3 ODAC) committed 20 of their season-high 36 turnovers in the opening half.

Guilford continued its defensive pressure in the second period and held the Woman's College to 17 second-half points on 30 percent (6-20) shooting from the floor. Thanks to a number of fast break baskets off of Wildcats' turnovers, Guilford shot better than 53 percent from the floor in the second period. Miller tallied 12 of her 20 points in the second half, while Campbell added nine of her season-high 13 points and four steals in that time. Campbell missed Bari Nixon's '97 school record of 10 steals by one.

Randolph-Macon Woman's College senior Tara Carleton (Dawsonville, GA/Dawson County), the defending ODAC Player of the Year, matched Miller's game-high 20 points and added a game-best nine rebounds. Senior Kai Felton (Pasadena, CA/La Canada) scored nine points for the Wildcats.

Guilford junior Marlo Biernacki (Alden, NY/Akron Central) netted a season-high 11 points off the bench. Quakers' rookie Shannon Underwood (Niantic, CT/East Lyme) posted a career-best 10 points for the second straight game.

Guilford extended its lead in the season series to 16-1 with its seventh straight win. Guilford's 22 steals missed the school record set in 1997 by four.

The Quakers visit Roanoke in conference play this Thursday night (12/9), while the Wildcats begin their inter-semester break and are off until a January 11 ODAC tilt with Lynchburg.
