
GUILFORD WOMEN FALL TO BRIDGEWATER, 76-64
Greensboro, NC (02/26/00) -- Freshman Megan Forster (Shawsville, VA/Shawsville) scored a career-high 22 points and added nine rebounds to lead hot-shooting Bridgewater past Guilford, 76-64, Wednesday night. The win gives the Eagles (18-5, 15-4 ODAC) a one-game lead in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) women's basketball standings with one game to play in the regular season.
Bridgewater hit 13 of its first 18 field goals and shot 65 percent from the floor to open a 46-34 halftime lead. Forster hit eight of nine shots in the opening period and helped the Eagles to a 21-point edge before the Quakers (17-6, 14-5 ODAC) closed the half with a 14-5 spurt.
Bridgewater's lead stayed around five or six points for most of the second half before a Kerrie Campbell (Greensboro, NC/Grimsley) layup with 5:07 left brought the hosts to within 62-61. Campbell's bucket was the Quakers' only field goal for the next 5:06 before Amy Evans (New Bern, NC/New Bern) scored with one second left. During Guilford's drought, Bridgewater enjoyed a 14-1 run, including seven of eight free-throw shooting in the last 1:24.
Eagles' sophomore Lindsey Coleman (Buena Vista, VA/Parry McCluer) added a career-high 20 points and matched a personal best with a game-high 12 rebounds. Sophomore Sarah Hagood (Shawsville, VA/Shawsville) finished with 13 points, nine boards and a game-high five blocks. Bridgewater shot 54.7 percent from the floor for the game. Junior Arden Miller (Landenberg, PA/Sanford School (DE)) led four Guilford players in double figure scoring with 14 points. Sophomore Megan Barlow (Chevy Chase, MD/Whitman) notched her fourth double-double with 12 points and a team-best 11 rebounds.
The Quakers close the regular season Saturday (2/19) at Emory & Henry at 2:00. The game will determine the second seed in next weekend's ODAC Tournament as Guilford, Emory & Henry and Roanoke are tied for second place with 14-5 league records. Bridgewater closes its season Saturday at Virginia Wesleyan.
