Student Assistant Coach

Offseason shoulder surgery sidelined Guilford sophomore Kate Nichols for the season, but she remains with the team as a student assistant. The Durham, NH, native probably learned a thing or two about coaching as the daughter of a girls’ basketball coach. She played for her father, David, at Oyster River H.S. and also with the New Hampshire Shooting Stars. Nichols captained both teams and helped the Shooting Stars to five AAU National Tournament appearances.

The Quakers’ Most Improved Player last season, Nichols after averaged 2.4 points and 1.3 rebounds in 22 games as a reserve forward. A strong outside shooter, Nichols finished third on the team with 12 three-pointers. She tallied a career-high seven points against Chatham and made a three-point basket in 10 games.

The daughter of David and Deborah Nichols, Kate majors in psychology and works as an assistant in Guilford’s athletics department.
