LYNCHBURG ADVANCES TO ODAC WOMEN'S LACROSSE SEMIFINALS
Lynchburg, VA (4/21/99)-- Junior Karen Sellers (Paoli, PA/Conestoga) scored five goals and an assist to lead host Lynchburg College to a 10-6 win over Guilford College in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) quarterfinal play Wednesday afternoon. With the win, the fourth-seeded Hornets (8-10) advance to play top-seeded Roanoke in the semifinals this Saturday, April 24 at 12:30 P.M. in Salem, VA.
Guilford senior Tina Schroeter (Reisterstown, MD/Garrison Forest) scored two of the game's first three goals to give the Quakers (8-9) an early 2-1 lead with five minutes elapsed in the first period. Lynchburg junior Kelly Murray (Lusby, MD/Calvert) scored at the 23:43 mark and sparked a 3-0 Hornets' run over next seven minutes.
Guilford's leading scorer, junior Jenn Jankowski (Bethlehem, CT/Westover School) converted a free-position shot with 11 minutes left to close the gap to one, and rookie Keli Donnelly (Lafayette Hill, PA/Plymouth-Whitemarsh) knotted the score at four with a goal two minutes later.
Lynchburg responded with the last two goals of the first half and the first three of the second period to take a commanding 9-4 advantage with 18:05 left. Sellers paced the attack with three scores and an assist during the run. Hornets junior goaltender Kristen Booty (Annapolis, MD) shut down the Quakers in the second half, posting seven of her 10 saves and allowing just two goals.
