GUILFORD PICKED SIXTH IN PRESEASON ODAC POLL
Salem, VA (3/04/99) -- Guilford College's women's lacrosse team is picked sixth in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) 1999 preseason women's lacrosse coaches poll, released Wednesday. Defending league champion Washington and Lee was picked first.
Guilford returns 14 letter winners, including 10 starters from last season's 6-9 team which reached the ODAC quarterfinals for the sixth straight year. Coach Ken Glardon opens his fourth season minus only three regulars from the 1997 squad and returns a pair of all-conference performers and all of the team's top scorers. Senior Tina Schroeter and sophomore Jess Phillips are back after earning second team all-conference recognition in 1998. Junior attack Jenn Jankowski led the Quakers in scoring a year ago with 40 goals and three assists. Three-year starters Becki Davis and Lauren Gill returns on defense and at goaltender, respectively.
Washington and Lee returns six starters from last year's squad which advanced to the eight-team NCAA Division III playoffs. The Generals went undefeated in league play (8-0) last season and posted a 13-3 overall mark. First team All-ODAC defenders Whitney Parker and Mary Jo Mahoney are top veterans on this year's squad.
