
WASHINGTON AND LEE CLAIMS 13-4 WOMEN'S LACROSSE WIN OVER GUILFORD
Lexington, VA (04/09/00) - Freshman attack Leslie Bogart (Wilton, CT/Wilton) and senior attack Katherine Riddle (St. Clair Shores, MI/Univ. Liggett) each notched four goals and one assist to help lead Washington and Lee to a 13-4 win in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) womens lacrosse action Sunday.
Bogart opened the scoring just 2:46 into the contest when she notched an unassisted goal to give the Generals (5-3, 4-1 ODAC) a 1-0 lead. Washington and Lee increased the lead to 4-0 over the next 13:09, with Bogart adding another goal and assist in the stretch. Junior attack Ann Scharff (Wynnewood, PA/Friends Central) got Guilford (1-8, 0-5 ODAC) on the board at the 12:22 mark with an unassisted goal, making the score 4-1 in the Generals favor. Riddle scored the final two goals of the opening stanza to give Washington and Lee a 6-1 halftime lead.
The Quakers scored first in the second frame, narrowing the lead to 6-2 on an unassisted goal by sophomore midfielder Melissa Urann (Plymouth, MA/Falmouth Academy) at the 29:22 mark. From there, Washington and Lee outscored Guilford by a 7-1 margin over the next 22 minutes in cruising to the win.
Aside from Bogart and Riddle, the Generals received strong offensive outputs from several other players. Sophomore Courtenay Fisher (Baltimore, MD/Garrison Forest) notched two goals on the day, while senior Jennifer Strawbridge (Houston, TX/Westfield) tallied her first career goal. Senior Ginny Jernigan (Orlando, FL/Dr. Phillips) made 12 saves in goal for the Generals. Guilford had four players score one goal apiece.
Guilford visits Roanoke Thursday (4/13) at 4:00 pm.
