EAGLES HANDLE GUILFORD IN WOMEN’S LACROSSE, 19-6
Bridgewater, VA (04/08/00) - Five Bridgewater College players scored at least three goals as the host Eagles (6-3, 2-3 ODAC) defeated Guilford (1-8, 0-5 ODAC) in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference women’s lacrosse contest Saturday afternoon at Bridgewater’s Mapp Field.
Freshman Sarah Pritchett (Wolftown, VA/St. Anne’s Belfield) paced Bridgewater's attack with four goals and two assists, and sophomore Liz Pietrzyk (Charlottesville, VA/Albemarle) contributed three goals and three assists in the win. Junior Kate Blaney (Churchville, MD/John Carroll) added four goals and an assist for the Eagles, while junior Ashley Johnson (Waynesboro, VA/Waynesboro) and sophomore Sarah Wyant (Pasadena, MD/Chesapeake) found the net three times.
Bridgewater jumped out to a 7-1 lead midway through the first half, but the Quakers rallied with back-to-back tallies from juniors Kate Allen (Cumberland, RI/Lincoln School) and Ann Scharff (Wynnewood, PA/Friends Central) to cut the Eagles’ advantage to four goals with 11:10 remaining before halftime. Guilford would get no closer, however, and Bridgewater put the game away with four straight second-period goals which put the Eagles up 15-5 with 13 minutes left to play.
Senior Jenn Jankowski (Bethlehem, CT/Westover School) and sophomore midfielder Melissa Urann (Plymouth, MA/Falmouth) each scored twice for the Quakers, who also got 15 saves in goal from freshman Ruth Weening (East Kingtson, NH/Exeter).
