WASHINGTON AND LEE DEFEATS GUILFORD, 5-1
Lexington, VA Freshman Matt Wilson scored the first two goals of his career to lift host Washington and Lee to a 5-1 Old Dominion Athletic Conference win over Guilford Saturday afternoon. The win marked the Generals' first league win of the season.
Senior Sam Chase put the hosts on the board in the fifth minute with a goal set up by senior back Mikel Parker. The Quakers' Owen Finberg answered with his third goal of the season six minutes later to tie the match at 1-1.
Washington and Lee regained the lead for good seven minutes later on Jamie Parker's score from Paul Wallace. Wallace set up Wilson in the 23rd minute and Parker closed out the first-half scoring with his first career goal in the 36th minute.
The loss extends Guilford's losing streak to six games headed into an October 5 match with regionally ranked Hampden-Sydney.
