GUILFORD EXPLODES FOR 5-0 MEN'S SOCCER WIN OVER MARYMOUNT

(10/25/98) Four different players scored for Guilford as the Quakers scored a season-high five goals in a 5-0 road decision at Marymount. Freshman goaltender Adrian Sperka (Tryon, NC/Polk County) stopped six shots to earn his first collegiate shutout and team's first shutout of the season.Senior forward Owen Finberg (Margaretville, NY/Margaretville) put the Quakers on the board with his career-high sixth goal of the season in the 16th minute. Finberg set up freshman Kwame Darko's (Providence, RI/Sandy Spring Friends (MD)) first collegiate goal 20 minutes later.
Rookie midfielder Ray King (Trenton, NJ/Pennington School) netted his team-leading 10th score of the year in the 39th minute to give the Quakers a 3-0 halftime advantage. King leads Guilford with 10 goals this season, the most in a season by a Guilford player since 1992.
The Quakers scored twice in the second half, once on an own goal and again in the 63rd minute on a penalty kick by senior Ben Gann (Cincinnati, OH/Cincinnati Christian Hills). The goal marked the first tally of Gann's career.
Guilford closes out the 1998 home season Tuesday afternoon against Montreat at 3:00 pm.
