
QUAKERS DROP MEN'S SOCCER OPENER
Laurinburg, NC (9/3/98) -- David Hartman and Kevin Varnado combined on two first-half goals as Division II St. Anderws College dealt visiting Guilford a 3-1 men's soccer setback Tuesday afternoon.
Hartman tallied off a Varnado feed in the 22nd minute and Hartman returned the favor seven minutes later as the host Knights jumped out to a 3-0 halftime lead. Neil Fillmore netted St. Andrews' third goal in the 34th minute.
Guilford, which was outshot 22-9, got on the board seven minutes into the second half as rookie Ray King (Trenton, NJ/Pennington School) scored his first collegiate goal on an assist from junior Jon Baker (Chapel Hill, NC/Chapel Hill).
The Quakers open the home portion of their schedule next Wednesday against Averett at 4:00 pm.
