THREE QUAKERS NAMED TO ALL-ODAC MEN'S SOCCER TEAM
Greensboro, NC (11/06/01) -- The Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) announced it's All-ODAC selections November 5. Junior Steve Harrison (Virginia Beach, VA/Kempsville) and sophomore Tim Imafidon (Raleigh, NC/Wake Forest-Rolesville) were named to the All-ODAC second team, while sophomore goalkeeper Ryan Fitzgibbons (Danville, CT/Killingly) was an honorable mention selection.
A two-year captain, this marks the first time Harrison has been
selected to an All-ODAC squad. He completed the season ranked second on the team
with a career-high 11 points (4 goals, 3 assists) from the fullback position. Harrison
notched the game winning goal against Ferrum (9/25) with 28 minutes left in the
match on a free kick from 25 yards out. He played in all 20 matches for
the Quakers, starting in all but one. Harrison's career total of 10
assists rank fifth in Guilford's record books.
Imafidon
(right) earned second-team All-ODAC honors for the second straight
year. He led the Quakers in points (25), goals (10) and assists (5), all
career-high totals. Imafidon played in 18 of the Quakers' 20 matches this
season and scored four game-winning goals, including one in an upset win over
nationally ranked Washington and Lee. Imafidon's 19 career goals rank
seventh in Guilford's record books.
Fitzgibbons again held the starting position in goal this season. He
completed the season with 111 saves, which placed fourth among ODAC leaders and
compiled a .793 saves percentage. Fitzgibbons' season goals against
average was 1.30 in 18 games, the second-lowest total in Guilford history. His
career saves total stands at 222, the fourth highest total in school history.
This is the first time he has been an All-ODAC selection.
Coach Liam Behrens' squad finished the 2001 season with a 9-11 record (3-6 ODAC). Guilford finished the regular season eighth in the conference and received their third ODAC Tournament bid in four years. The team lost 2-1 in the first round of the tournament to Washington and Lee. The Quakers lose two players to graduation, returning 22 letter winners for the 2002 campaign.
