GREENSBORO TOPS GUILFORD IN MEN'S SOCCER FINALE, 4-1
Greensboro, NC (10/28/00) — Sophomore forward Duncan Edwards (Paraparaumu, New Zealand/Kapiti College) scored three goals to lead Greensboro's men's soccer team past visiting Guilford Saturday afternoon, 4-1, in the Quakers' regular-season finale. The Pride (13-3-2), ranked fourth in this week's National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) south region rankings, handed the Quakers (6-10-1) their sixth straight setback.
Edwards put the Pride on the board in the 27th minute off a free kick. Rookie Michael Smith (Tawa, New Zealand/Tawa College) doubled Greensboro's lead with his fourth goal of the season off an assist by sophomore Buddy Forward (Greensboro, NC/Grimsley).
Edwards gave the hosts a 4-0 advantage by scoring his team-leading 22nd and 23rd goals of the season nine minutes apart in the second half.
Guilford averted the shutout on sophomore Noam Sorek's (Atlit, Israel/Ort Hiriat Bialik) fourth goal of the season in the 74th minute off an assist from freshman Ampofo Darko (Kumasi, Ghana/Sandy Spring Friends (MD)).
