EASTERN MENNONITE POSTS 1-0 MEN'S SOCCER WIN OVER GUILFORD
Harrisonburg, VA — Javier Garcia's (Alice, TX/Alice) headed in the game-winning goal late in the first half and goaltender Jimmy Pollard (Charleston, SC/Stratford) made six saves as host Eastern Mennonite notched a 1-0 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) men's soccer win over Guilford Saturday.
Garcia's goal came off a throw in by Sheldon Rice (Strasburg, PA/Lancaster Mennonite), which was headed by Kurt Holsopple (Harrisonburg, VA/Eastern Mennonite) to Garcia.
Pollard made the goal stand up despite a number of Guilford second-half runs. Quakers' sophomore Steve Harrison (Virginia Beach, VA/Kempsville) had a one-on-one opportunity with the goalie, but Pollard made a lunnging stab to punch the ball away from the goal.
Guilford rookie goaltender Ryan Fitzgibbons (Dayville, CT/Killingly) made eight saves in defeat.
