IMAFIDON GIVES GUILFORD 1-0 MEN'S SOCCER WIN OVER SHENANDOAH
Greensboro, NC (09/03/00) Rookie forward Tim Imafidon (Raleigh, NC/Wake Forest-Rolesville) scored his first collegiate goal in the 65th minute to lift Guilford past visiting Shenandoah, 1-0, in nonconference men's soccer action Sunday. The win evened the Quakers' record at 1-1 after a 2-0 loss to Methodist Saturday, while Shenandoah falls to 0-1.
Sophomore Steve Harrison (Virginia Beach, VA/Kempsville) struck a direct kick from about 35 yards out near the sideline. Imafidon met the cross in midair and headed Harrison's kick past Hornets' sophomore goaltender Tom Malinosky (Clearwater, FL/Central Catholic) at the 64:49 mark of the second half.
The scoreless game took a turn in Guilford's favor in the 49th minute when Shenandoah freshman Matt Malinosky (Clearwater, FL/Central Catholic) picked up his second yellow card and was ejected from the game. Despite the man disadvantage, the Hornets maintained steady pressure and ended up with a 22-18 shots advantage.
Guilford freshman goaltender Ryan Fitzgibbons (Dayville, CT/Killingly) recorded 11 saves in his first collegiate shutout, including three late in the game off the boot of Shenandoah forward Akmed Mansaray (Alexandria, VA/T.C. Williams).
