GUILFORD MEN'S SOCCER TEAM 2-1 VICTORS IN HOME CLOSER
Greensboro, NC (10/30/99) Guilford made first-half goals by freshman Noam Sorek (Atlit, Israel/Ort Hiriat Bialik) and sophomore Ray King (Trenton, NJ/Pennington School) stand up and closed out its home schedule with a 2-1 win over visiting Warren Wilson on Haworth Field Saturday afternoon.
The Quakers improve to 9-8 with the Homecoming win and have their most victories in a season since the 1986 squad went 14-6. The NAIA Owls fall to 4-9 on the year.
Midfielder Dax Baker (Greensboro, NC/Grimsley), one of four Quakers' seniors playing their home finales, set up Sorek's tally in the 32nd minute for his 14th career assist. King headed in a Dan Neville (Absecon, NJ/Absegami) cross from five yards out just under two minutes later. King's team-leading 11th goal of the year marked the 24th of his career and moves him into eighth place on Guilford's career points list with 54.
The Owls' Jamie Ager converted a second-half penalty kick to avert the shutout.
Guilford closes out the regular season Monday at Averett and begins play in the ODAC Tournament Tuesday at Hampden-Sydney.
