(10/17/99) Sophomore forward Ray King (Trenton, NJ/Pennington School) and rookie forward Noam Sorek (Atlit, Israel/Ort Hiriat Bialik) each scored second-half goals as visiting Guilford claimed a 2-0 nonconference soccer win at Shenandoah Saturday. The win marks Guilford's seventh of the season, which represents the most wins in a year since the 1991 squad went 8-9.King scored for the fourth consecutive game and put the Quakers on the board in the 55th minute with his team-leading ninth score of the season off an assist from senior midfielder Dan Neville (Absecon, NJ/Absegami). Sorek added an insurance tally, his fifth of the year, in the 62nd minute off an assist from senior Dax Baker (Greensboro, NC/Grimsley). Rookie goaltender John Watson (New Bern, NC/New Bern) made four saves in recording his third shutout of the season. He becomes the first Guilford goaltender with three whitewashes in a season since Lance Anthony had three shutouts in 1991.
The Quakers (7-6) continue their weekend trip through northern Virginia with a 3:00 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) match at Randolph-Macon on Sunday.
