EVANS, KING NAMED ODAC SOCCER PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

Greensboro, NC (9/28/99) -- Guilford College sophomores Amy Evans (New Bern, NC/New Bern) and Ray King (Trenton, NJ/Pennington School) received the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Women's and Men's Soccer Player of the Week for the week ending September 26. Both players are the first from their respective teams to receive the award in 1999.

Evans.jpg (3745 bytes)Evans ended her week with seven goals and three assists in the Quakers' 2-1 week. She tallied hat tricks against Sweet Briar and against Wesleyan (GA) College and registered a career-high two assists in the Sweet Briar win. The midfielder scored the Quakers' lone goal in their 2-1 loss at ODAC-rival Virginia Wesleyan via a penalty kick. Evans leads the conference in goals (1.11) and points per game (2.67) with her 24 points (10g, 4a) in nine matches.

With last week's performance, Evans moved into third place on Guilford's career points list (63) and also ranks third in career goals with 28, just three shy of Alison Schott's '98 school record.

Coach Ken Glardon's Quakers (3-6, 2-3 ODAC), fresh off a 6-2 win over Wesleyan, look to continue their winning ways against Averett College Thursday, September 30 at Guilford's Haworth Field.

King.jpg (2436 bytes)Guilford's first ODAC Men's Soccer Player of the Week since 1997, King had three goals and an assist in two wins last week. He scored two goals and one assist in the Quakers' 5-2 win over Emory & Henry September 22. King ended the week with the winning goal in Guilford's 1-0 overtime win over defending ODAC champ Eastern Mennonite. The forward leads the team with a club-high three goals and three assists for nine points. He ranks third among the ODAC's points per game leaders (1.50).

Coach Liam Behrens' Quakers (4-2, 3-0 ODAC) are in the midst of a four-game winning streak, their longest since 1991. Their 3-0 record in the conference is the best start in school history. Guilford looks for its fifth win in a row when it plays league-rival Lynchburg Thursday, September 30 in Virginia.
