QUAKERS DROP SEASON OPENER AT METHODIST, 2-0
Fayetteville, NC (9/07/99) Methodist College beat Guilford's men's soccer team for the fifth straight time Tuesday afternoon, handing the Quakers a 2-0 opening-day shut-out.
At halftime there was no score, and it wasn't until 16 minutes had past in the second half that the Monarchs' Jimmy Bennett converted Eric Norfleet's corner kick into the game's first tally . With six minutes to go in the game, Ryan Madej added an insurance goal for Methodist.
The Quakers had three breakaway scoring opportunities but were unable to convert as Methodist goalkeeper Jamie Rough got four saves for the shutout. Guilford freshman John Watson (New Bern, NC/New Bern) recorded six saves in his collegiate debut.
