HAMPDEN-SYDNEY GIVES GUILFORD THIRD STRAIGHT LOSS

Hampden-Sydney, VA (10/7/99) — Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) rival Hampden-Sydney handed Guilford's men's soccer team its third straight loss Thursday afternoon, 3-1. The Tigers, who were ranked eighth in the October 4th NSCAA/South Regional rankings, improved their record to 6-4, 3-1 in the ODAC, while the Quakers' record dropped to 4-5, 3-2 in the ODAC.

The winning goal was scored by freshman midfielder Will Swink (Williamsburg, VA/Hampton Roads Academy), off of an assist from freshman midfielder Chad Pilcher (Woodstock, GA/Sequoyah). Swink's goal came in the 16th minute of play, and the Quakers could never catch up, as they were outshot by the Tigers, 20-8.

Freshman goalie John Watson (New Bern, NC/New Bern) picked up 10 saves, allowing both goals in the Quakers' defeat.
