GUILFORD MEN'S SOCCER TEAM EARNS FIRST WIN OF THE SEASON

Greensboro, NC (9/15/99) — The Guilford men's soccer team beat Ferrum College Tuesday afternoon, 3-0, at Haworth Field. The victory is the first this year for the Quakers and gives them a 1-2 record. The Panthers fall to 2-2-1 with the loss.

Freshman midfielder Steve Harrison (Virginia Beach, VA/Kempsville) scored the first Quaker goal of the year, off of assists from sophomore forward Ray King (Trenton, NJ/Pennington School) and senior midfielder Jon Baker (Chapel Hill, NC/Chapel Hill).  Baker also got his first goal as a Quaker, after Panther freshmen goalie Rod Baker (Maumee, OH/Maumee) deflect a shot by senior midfielder Dax Baker (Greensboro, NC/Grimsley), leaving Jon with an open shot at the goal.  The Quakers sealed victory when freshman forward Noam Sorek (Atlit, Israel/Ort Hiriat Bialik) scored off of a corner kick from King with three and a half minutes left in the game, putting them ahead 3-0.

Freshman goalie John Watson (New Bern, NC/New Bern) picked up a career-high 10 saves in his first collegiate shutout.
