HOT-SHOOTING GENERALS DOWN GUILFORD, 87-69

Lexington, VA (1/30/99) -- Washington and Lee used a game-high 21 points from Scott Hudson and 62.3 percent shooting from the floor to deal Guilford's men an 87-69 ODAC loss Saturday afternoon in Lexington, VA. The Quakers (3-16, 2-12 ODAC) held a 29-28 lead late in the first half, but the Generals (4-13, 3-8 ODAC) scored 11 of the final 14 points of the half to assume a 39-32 halftime advantage.

Guilford, which played the game with just seven players due to injuries, lost a hard-fought 67-60 decision at Randolph-Macon less than 16 hours earlier in Ashland, VA. The Quakers' fatigue showed in the second half as the Generals limited Guilford to just three field goals in the opening 8:31 of the second half en route to a 17-point lead. The Quakers pulled no closer than 11 points for the rest of the game as Washington and Lee singed the nets with 68 percent shooting in the second half.

Guilford sophomore Jon Evans (Mooresville, NC/Mooresville) led four Quakers in double figures with 15 points, 13 of which came in the first half. Sophomore guard Jaron Randall (Trenton, NJ/Princeton Country Day School) and rookie guard Brad Woolley (Chapel Hill, NC/East Chapel Hill) scored 13 points apiece for Guilford. Washington and Lee junior Rich Peterson made all six shots from the floor on the way to 17 points.
