FIERST ADDED TO GUILFORD MEN'S BASKETBALL STAFF
Greensboro, NC (10/14/01) -- Guilford College Athletics Director Mike Ketchum announced the addition of Eyal Fierst to the Quakers' men's basketball coaching staff Wednesday. Fierst, a student at Guilford Technical Community College, will serve as a student assistant coach on head coach Butch Estes' staff.
Fierst comes to Guilford from the Charles E. Smith Jewish Day School in
Rockville, MD, where he held an assortment of coaching positions. He spent five
seasons as an assistant for Smith's boys' varsity team and helped the club to a
pair of league championships. Fierst also coached Smith's middle school team,
which went undefeated and captured the conference title. He also spent time
coaching the middle school baseball, softball and girls' soccer teams at Smith.
Fierst served as a co-coach of the Maryland Torpedoes AAU team that reached the Elite Eight round of the 1999 AAU National Tournament. He worked as an instructor at the Stu Vetter Basketball Camp and the Sam Jones Basketball Camp.
A native of Eliat, Israel, Fierst played basketball and baseball at Smith before graduating in 1993.
Guilford opens its season November 16 at Division I East Tennessee State. The Quakers return 11 letterwinners from last season's 10-15 club that reached the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Tournament for the first time since 1995.
