
CONNOR NAMED ODAC MEN'S BASKETBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Greensboro, NC (11/26/01) -- Guilford sophomore Josh Connor (Greensboro, NC/Northwest Guilford) received the first Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Men's Basketball Player of the Week Award of the 2001-02 season, the league announced Monday.
A
6-2, 185-pound forward, Connor averaged 14 points and nine rebounds in
Guilford's first three games. He notched back-to-back double-doubles, the first
of his career, in the Quakers' two victories last week. Connor scored 15
points and made a career- and team-high 11 rebounds in Guilford's 100-71 road
win over Atlanta Christian November 19. He had 15 points and 10 boards in the
Quakers' 77-68 win at Southeastern (FL) two days later. Connor opened the
season with 12 points and a team-high six rebounds at Division I East Tennessee
State November 16.
Through three games, Connor leads Guilford in scoring (14.0 ppg.), rebounding (9.0 rpg.), steals (5) and free-throw percentage (14-15, .933). He averaged 4.4 points and 3.8 rebounds in 24 games as a freshman last season.
Coach Butch Estes' team (2-1) returns to action and begins ODAC play this Saturday (12/1) at Lynchburg at 7:00 pm. The Quakers play Greensboro next Tuesday (12/4) in the Greensboro Coliseum before opening their home schedule with a December 8 tilt against preseason league favorite Hampden-Sydney at 2:00 pm.
