Greensboro, NC (12/05/00) -- Senior center Todd Ashworth (High Point, NC/Southwest Guilford) scored 13 of his game- and season-high 17 points in the second has to lift Guilford past crosstown rival Greensboro, 74-53, Tuesday night in the Greensboro Coliseum.

The win gave Guilford a sweep of the annual basketball rivalry with Greensboro for the second straight year as the Quakers' women posted a 69-51 triumph in the opening game of Tuesday's doubleheader.

Guilford (2-5) shot a blistering 69.6 percent from the floor in the first half to grab a 43-26 advantage.

After the Quakers' advantage grew to 23 points, the Pride (2-3) cut its deficit to 11 points with a 16-2 spurt fueled by six points from rookie swingman Daron Williams (Spruce Pine, NC/Mitchell). Guilford answered with sophomore guard Paul Kindem's (Chapel Hill, NC/East Chapel Hill) third three-point goal, which triggered a 10-2 Quakers' run. The Quakers' defense forced 12 Greensboro second-half turnovers.

Kindem finished with 15 points, 12 in the first half, and junior forward Brad Woolley (Chapel Hill, NC/East Chapel Hill) added 14 points and a game-high five assists for Guilford.

Williams paced Greensboro with 11 points off the bench and made all four of his shots from the floor. Greensboro's leading scorer, senior guard Lamont Sides (Greensboro, NC/Southwest Guilford), managed 10 points, but was held to five-of-15 shooting from the floor.

Guilford hosts Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) rival Emory & Henry Thursday night at 7:00 pm.
