GUILFORD MEN'S BASKETBALL ADDS DIVISION I TRANSFER
Greensboro, NC (01/09/01) -- Guilford College men's basketball coach Butch Estes announced the addition of 6-9, 260-pound junior forward/center Aron McMillian (Greensboro, NC/Greensboro Day) to the team's roster Tuesday
McMillian, a former all-state performer at Greensboro Day, returns to
Greensboro after playing one-and-a-half seasons at Division I Old Dominion and one year
for Wake Forest. Originally a Wake Forest-signee, he appeared in 14 games for the Demon
Deacons in 1997-98 before transferring to Old Dominion. He sat out the 1998-99 campaign
per NCAA regulations and averaged 1.7 points and 2.2 rebounds in 20 games of the bench for
the 11-19 Monarchs. McMillian played sparingly in seven contests for Old Dominion
this year before taking a leave of absence from the team prior to the end of the semester.
He averaged 1.7 points and 1.1 rebounds in seven reserve appearances this fall.
Since joining the Quakers McMillian has appeared in two contests off the bench. He played seven scoreless minutes in a road loss to Randolph-Macon Saturday (1/6), but had a key role in Guilford's 88-81 upset win at Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) rival Virginia Wesleyan Monday (1/8). He scored eight of his career-high 11 points in the second half and added a game- and career-best eight boards as Guilford rallied from a 10-point second-half deficit.
McMillian starred for three seasons at the Greensboro Day School under coach Freddie Johnson. He helped the Bengals to consecutive state titles in 1995 and 1996. He averaged 21.2 points and 9.8 rebounds as a senior and earned All-Guilford County honors three times. McMillian's father, Jim, was an All-American basketball player at Columbia (SC) College before enjoying a nine-year career in the National Basketball Association (NBA). He played on the Los Angeles Lakers' 19971-72 NBA championship team. Aron's sister, Emon, played basketball on Wake Forest women's basketball squad following a stellar scholastic career at Western Guilford High School.
Estes' Quakers (4-8, 2-5 ODAC) look to continue their winning ways when they visit perennial ODAC power Roanoke Wednesday (1/10) night. Guilford returns home for a 4:00 P.M league match with visiting Eastern Mennonite Saturday afternoon (1/13) at 4:00 P.M.
