ASHWORTH NAMED ODAC MEN'S BASKETBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Greensboro, NC (12/11/00) -- Guilford senior Todd Ashworth (High Point, NC/SW Guilford) received the Old Dominion Athletic Conference's (ODAC) Men's Basketball Player of the Week Award for the week of December 4, the league announced Monday. Ashworth, who won the award for the first time in his career, becomes the Quakers' first recipient of the league's weekly honor this season.
Guilford's starting center, Ashworth
averaged 13.7 points and 6.7 rebounds per game in the Quakers' 2-1 week. He connected on
16 of 25 shots from the floor (61.5%) and made five steals in three games. Ashworth
scored 13 of his season- and game-high 17 points in the second half to help Guilford past
crosstown rival Greensboro December 5, 74-53, in the Greensboro Coliseum. Two nights
later, the 6-5, 210-pound co-captain hit for a game-high 14 points and grabbed a team-best
eight rebounds in the Quakers' 53-52 ODAC win over visiting Emory & Henry. He
concluded his week with a 10-point, seven-rebound showing in a 62-49 road loss to
14th-ranked Hampden-Sydney December 9.
Ashworth has scored in double figures in five straight contests and ranks second on the team with a 10.7 points per game average. He leads the club in rebounding (5.2 rpg) and steals (1.3 spg) and stands second with a .529 field-goal percentage. A three-year starter, Ashworth needs 13 points for 600 in his career and is 67 rebounds shy of 500 career boards.
Coach Butch Estes' club finished the fall semester with a 3-6 overall record, including a 2-1 ODAC mark. The Quakers return to action at home Wednesday January 3 against league-rival Washington and Lee.
