Box Score

Emory, VA (02/09/00) -- Sophomore John Carter's (Greensboro, NC/Greensboro Day School) basket with 42 seconds left broke a 66-66 tie and lifted visiting Guilford to a 72-66 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) men's basketball win at Emory & Henry Wednesday night. The win snapped the Quakers' (5-16, 4-12 ODAC) seven-game losing streak and marks Guilford's first win in Emory since December 10, 1994.

The host Wasps (7-15, 5-11 ODAC) rallied from a nine-point second-half deficit and took a 66-65 lead on a three-pointer by sophomore forward Kenny Carver (Charlotte, NC/Independence) with 2:17 remaining. The basket marked Emory & Henry's final score of the game as Guilford closed the contest with a 7-0 run that included five free throws, four by sophomore forward Brad Woolley (Chapel Hill, NC/East Chapel Hill).

Woolley shared game-high scoring honors with 17 points and added a personal-best 10 rebounds for his first career double-double. Redshirt freshman Paul Kindem (Chapel Hill, NC/East Chapel Hill) also scored 17 points on seven-of-11 shooting from the floor. The Quakers enjoyed a 50-32 rebounding advantage and held the home team to 29.8 percent field-goal shooting, the lowest figure by a Guilford opponent this season. Carter finished with eight points and a season-high eight boards. The Quakers' bench outscored the Wasps' reserves, 41-13.

Junior guard Bryan Pruett (Narrows, VA/Narrows) scored 12 of his team-high 17 points in the second half to lead the Emory & Henry comeback. He hit three of his game-high four three-pointers in the second period. Senior center David McManus (Greensboro, NC/Western Guilford) also scored 17 points for the Wasps, while senior guard Patrick Bailey (Narrows, VA/Narrows) added 16 points.

The win keeps Guilford's bid for an ODAC Tournament berth alive. The Quakers close out the regular season with home games against league-rivals Roanoke (2/14) and Washington and Lee (2/16). Guilford hosts Chowan in a nonleague tilt Saturday afternoon (2/12) at 4:00 pm.
