Box Score

Greensboro, NC (02/05/00) -- Senior center Ron Yuhasz (Dover, DE/Caesar Rodney) scored a game-high 28 points and grabbed a game-best 12 rebounds as visiting Virginia Wesleyan downed Guilford, 82-69, in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) men's basketball action Saturday.

The win extended the Marlins (10-10, 8-7 ODAC) winning streak to a season-high five games and sent Guilford (4-16, 3-12 ODAC) to its seventh straight setback.

The Marlins used a 7-0 run late in the first half to open a 40-25 halftime advantage. Yuhasz and senior guard Tim Petrillo (Woodbury, NJ/West Deptford) combined for 27 of the Marlins' first-half points and Virginia Wesleyan held Guilford to 25.8 percent (8-31) field goal shooting in the opening stanza.

Guilford stayed within 15 points of the Marlins for the entire second half, and closed to within 63-55 after a John Carter (Greensboro, NC/Greensboro Day) layup with five minutes left. The Marlins sank 19 of 25 free throws in the last five minutes of the game to keep the Quakers at bay.

Yuhasz, the ODAC's second-leading scorer and rebounder, converted nine of 12 shots from the floor, including two of three three-pointers. Petrillo, the loop's third-leading scorer, finished with 20 points, thanks to three trifectas and seven-of-eight free-throw shooting. Sophomore Carl Lentz (Virginia Beach, VA/Cox) added eight points and six rebounds off the bench.

Junior center Todd Ashworth (High Point, NC/Southwest Guilford) and redshirt freshman guard Paul Kindem (Chapel Hill, NC/East Chapel Hill) paced the Quakers with 14 points apiece. Ashworth added a team-best eight rebounds. Junior guard David Zelickson (Charlotte, NC/Charlotte Country Day) added 11 points in defeat.

Guilford visits league-rival Emory & Henry Wednesday night (2/9) at 7:00 pm, while the Marlins look for their sixth straight win tomorrow at Averett at 3:00 pm.
