RANDOLPH-MACON SCORES 10-4 ODAC WIN OVER GUILFORD
Ashland, VA (4/24/99) -- Host Randolph-Macon outscored Guilford 7-1 in the second period to capture a 10-4 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) men's lacrosse victory Saturday afternoon at Day Field. The loss extended Guilford's (5-9) losing streak to six games and closes the Quakers' conference season with an 0-6 mark. Randolph-Macon (8-4, 1-4 ODAC) picked up its first ODAC win of the season.
Guilford held a 2-1 first-quarter lead thanks to goals by sophomore midfielder Kevin Dawyskiba (Norwell, MA/Norwell) and junior midfielder Dusty Ollerhead (Towson, MD/Towson). An extra-man tally by Guilford's Ted Long (Halifax, MA/Cape Cod Academy) gave the Quakers a 3-2 lead with 2:18 left in the second quarter, but the Yellow Jackets answered with the first of two goals by senior midfielder Brian Cleary (Vienna, VA/James Madison) to force a 3-3 halftime tie.
An extra-man goal by senior attackman Dan Carver (Ellicott City, MD/Mt. Hebron) and a man-down score by senior defenseman Ben Dease (Virginia Beach, VA/Cape Henry College) gave the hosts a 5-3 advantage through three quarters and the Yellow Jackets put the game away with the first five goals of the final quarter. Guilford senior midfielder Chad Tripp (Syracuse, NY/Henninger) provided the final margin with an unassisted tally with 1:34 to play.
