VILLA JULIE POSTS MEN'S LACROSSE WIN OVER GUILFORD, 21-11
Stevenson, MD (4/17/99) -- Host Villa Julie scored the first 12 goals of the game en route to a convincing 21-11 nonconference win over Guilford Saturday. The loss extends Guilford's (5-8) winless streak to five and marks the Mustangs (8-6) fourth consecutive win.
Senior attackman Eric Schmith (Baltimore, MD/Archbishop Curley) scored two goals and two assists during the opening spurt and finished with a game-high seven points (3g, 4a). Junior attackman Andrew Cunningham (Bel Air, MD/Bel Air) and sophomore midfielder Travis Williams (Baltimore, MD/Dundalk) also tallied twice during the run and finished with a game-best four goals apiece.
Guilford finally got on the board with just under six minutes to play in the first half on the first of two goals by senior Ted Long (Halifax, MA/Cape Cod Academy). Both teams scored again in the second quarter to make the halftime score, 13-2, in favor of Villa Julie.
The Mustangs scored the first three goals of the third period to take a 16-2 advantage. Sophomore midfielder Mark Kratsel (Reisterstown, MD/Boys' Latin) netted his third goal of the afternoon and second extra-man tally at the 10:34 mark of the third period.
Guilford sophomore Jason Gauthier (Kernersville, NC/Skaneateles (NY)) led the Quakers with a career-high six points on three fourth-quarter goals and three assists.
