LYNCHBURG HOLDS OFF GUILFORD IN ODAC MEN'S LACROSSE, 10-7
Greensboro, NC (4/07/99) -- Senior midfielder Pat McAdams (Charlottesville, VA/Albemarle) and sophomore attackman Josh Paris (Burke, VA/Lake Braddock) each scored three goals to lead 14th-ranked Lynchburg over Guilford, 10-7, in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) play Wednesday.
The host Quakers (5-7, 0-5 ODAC) answered Paris' game-opening goal with three scores and held a 3-1 lead early in the second quarter. Lynchburg (8-2, 2-2 ODAC) answered with a 4-0 run over the next 4:15 and took a 5-3 lead on back-to-back goals by senior midfielder Charlie Rooney (Naperville, IL/Centerville). The teams traded tallies before Guilford sophomore Jason Gauthier (Kernersville, NC/Skaneateles (NY))) intercepted a clearing pass from the sideline by Lynchburg goalie Marty Jakovics (Towson, MD/Calvert Hall) and scored from 18 yards out with 10 seconds left to pull the Quakers to within 6-5 at halftime.
The Hornets scored the first four goals of the second half and opened a 10-5 lead on McAdams' third tally of the game with 13:06 to play. Midfielder Chad Tripp (Syracuse, NY/Henninger), one of four Quakers' seniors making their final home appearances, scored at 10:23 and 7:30 to provide the final margin in Guilford's fourth straight loss.
Guilford sophomore goaltender Anthony Roman (New York, NY/Mt. St. Michael Academy) made 17 saves in a solid effort while Jakovics made 12 stops and recorded a game-high nine ground balls.
