THIRD-RANKED GENERALS TOPPLE GUILFORD IN ODAC MEN'S LACROSSE PLAY
Lexington, VA (3/31/99) -- Nine different Washington and Lee players scored goals to help lead the third-ranked Generals to a 23-1 victory over Guilford in ODAC men's lacrosse action on Wednesday afternoon at Wilson Field. The win was the 100th in the career of W&L head coach Jim Stagnitta (100-38). He is now just nine wins away from becoming the winningest coach in the history of W&L men's lacrosse.
Guilford got on the scoreboard first as junior midfielder Dusty Ollerhead (Towson, MD/Towson) scored off an assist from sophomore midfielder Jason Gauthier (Kernersville, NC/Skaneateles) with 9:34 remaining in the first quarter to make the score 1-0 in favor of the Quakers (5-5, 0-3 ODAC).
However, W&L (7-1, 3-0 ODAC) would hold Guilford scoreless for the remainder of the game in walking away with its sixth-straight win.
Sophomore attackman Matt Dugan (Rockaway, NJ/Mountain Lakes) and junior attackman Chris Brown (Towson, MD/Towson) led the Generals with four goals each. Junior attackman Colin Dougherty (Timonium, MD/Loyola) collected three goals and two assists.
Guilford will be back in action on April 3, when it travels to Hampden-Sydney for a 1:00 contest.
