Greensboro, NC (3/20/99) -- Sophomore attackman Dan Kollar (Middle Island, NY/Longwood) scored four goals and an assist, including the game-winner with 12:10 to play, to lead Tufts over Catawba, 8-7, in the first game of the Guilford College Lacrosse Tournament.
The Division III Jumbos (1-0) advance to Sunday's championship game against host Guilford (3-3), a 13-12 winner over Western New England in Saturday's other game. The Division II Indians (1-4) play Western New England in Sunday's consolation game at noon.
Tufts overcame a 6-3 halftime deficit by scoring the first four goals of the second half, including a go-ahead goal by junior Greg Molinelli (Northport, NY/Northport) at the 7:05 mark of the third quarter. Catawba sophomore Mike Johnson (Brentwood, TN/Brentwood) scored an extra-man goal with 6:30 left in the third quarter to tie the game for the fifth and final time at 7-7.
Tufts clamped down defensively on Catawba in the second half, especially on Indians' leading scorer Tony Fescina (Fairfax, VA/Fairfax) who burned the Jumbos for two goals and an assist in the first half. Catwaba scored once and managed just 10 shots in the second half, including four shots in the decisive fourth quarter. Rookie goaltender Mike Terrasi (Franklin Square, NY/Carey) played the final two quarters for Tufts and made five of the Jumbos' eight saves.
