
Greensboro, NC (3/17/99) -- Sophomore David Taylor (Butler, MD/St. Paul's) scored four goals and two assists and senior goaltender Evan Kaplow (Chappaqua, NY/Horace Greely) made 22 saves to lead visiting Roanoke College past Guilford, 14-7, in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) men's lacrosse opener for both teams.
The Maroons (1-3, 1-0 ODAC) broke open an 8-5 game with three straight goals over a four-minute span from the third to the fourth quarter. Taylor started the spurt with the Roanoke's first of three extra-man goals in the second half with one minute left in the third quarter. He later set up freshman Jeb Burrows' III (Wayne, PA/Haverford School) second score of the game less than two minutes later to boost the Maroons' edge to 10-5 with 14:03 remaining. Taylor tallied twice in the fourth quarter as Roanoke netted four of the game's final six goals for the win.
The Quakers (3-3, 0-1 ODAC) overcame a 6-1 second quarter deficit thanks to a 4-2 run over the middle two quarters. Senior attackman Fran Randall (Homer, NY/Homer) capped the run with an extra-man goal with 3:54 left in the third quarter to pull the hosts to within 8-5.
Five different Roanoke players tallied twice, including Burrows and junior attackman Ryan Kamerdin (South Salem, NY/John Jay) who also added two assists. Senior midfielder Chad Tripp (Syracuse, NY/Henninger) led Guilford with a career-best three goals and one assist.
