After rookie Mike Norusis' (Falls Church, VA/Bishop Ireton) extra-man goal gave the Cardinals (0-1) a 2-1 first-quarter lead, the Quakers responded with an 8-0 run which included four extra-man goals. Synowiez tallied three times during the spurt while sophomore Jason Gauthier (Kernersville, NC/Skaneateles (NY)) and rookie Nick Laughton (Marina, CA/St. Mary's Ryken (MD)) netted two scores apiece. Catholic junior midfielder Mike Scovatti (Bronxville, NY/Bronxville) stopped Guilford's run at the 14:05 mark of the second quarter with his first of four goals on the day. Guilford led 9-3 at halftime.
Guilford senior Fran Randall (Homer, NY/Homer) opened the second-half scoring with an unassisted tally before Synowiez hit for three consecutive goals to boost the Quakers' lead to 13-3 with 3:46 left in the third quarter. Guilford senior Chad Tripp (Syracuse, NY/Henninger) assisted on two of Synowiez' scores and finished with a career-high five points (1g, 4a).
Guilford's 15 goals marked its most in a game since a 15-12 win over Shenandoah April 17, 1997.
