WASHINGTON AND LEE BLANKS GUILFORD,
19-0, IN ODAC MEN'S LACROSSE PLAY
Greensboro, NC (03/27/02) -- Senior
attackman Andrew Barnett (Darien, CT/Darien) scored a career-high six
goals to lead fifth-ranked Washington and Lee past Guilford, 19-0, in Old
Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) men's lacrosse action Wednesday.
The win marked Washington and Lee's first shutout since a 23-0 win over
Dickinson Mar. 15, 2000.
Eleven different Generals found the back of
the net as Washington and Lee improved to 5-2 overall and 2-0 in the league.
Guilford falls to 4-4, 0-2 in the ODAC.
Barnett scored three unassisted goals
in the first quarter and added a second-quarter tally to help the guests to an
8-0 halftime lead. He opened the
third-quarter scoring with his fifth goal of the game off an assist from senior
midfielder John Moore (Bell Air, MD/John Carroll School) and scored his
final goal midway through the third quarter.
Rookie attackman Gavin Molinelli (Northport, NY/Northport) set up Barnett's
sixth goal for the second of his game-high four assists. Moore, freshman midfielder Jack Murray
(Earlysville, VA/Albemarle) and sophomore midfielder Mark McLewee
(Timonium, MD/Dulaney) each scored twice for the Generals.
Washington and Lee sophomore goalie Ansel
Sanders (Weems, VA/Woodberry Forest) made one save in three quarters and
rookie Pat Casey (Rockville, MD/Georgetown Prep) preserved the shutout
with one stop in the final period. Guilford
freshman netminder Aaron Skiles (Weirton, WV/Shattuck St. Mary's (MN)) made
15 saves.
Guilford hosts league-rival Randolph-Macon
Saturday (03/30) at 2:00 p.m. The
Generals visit 14th-ranked Lynchburg Saturday in an ODAC tilt.
