Greensboro, NC (03/17/02) - Tournament Most Valuable Player Jamie Test (Alexandria, VA/Gonzaga) scored two goals and an assist to lead Mary Washington to a 10-3 win over Guilford Sunday in the championship game of the Guilford College Lacrosse Tournament.  Test, a junior midfielder, totalled four goals and three assists in Mary Washington's (4-3) two tourney victories.

Sophomore attackman Mike MacMaster (Hingham, MA/Hingham) scored five goals and six assists in Wooster's 15-1 win over Marietta in the tournament's consolation game earlier in the day.

Mary Washington scored the game's first six goals and never let Guilford (4-2) closer than four goals in the second half.  Sophomore attackman Matt Wiles (Gainesville, VA/Paul VI) opened the scoring 2:12 into the game and ended a 6-0 Eagles' run with an extra-man tally with 4:41 left in the second quarter.  Guilford freshmen Eddie Massello (Roanoke, VA/Roanoke Catholic) and Mark Fiore (Doylestown, PA/Bridgton Academy (ME)) got Guilford on the board with consecutive second-quarter goals 51 seconds apart to cut Mary Washington's lead to 6-2 at halftime.

The teams traded third-quarter goals before Mary Washington netted three unanswered tallies in the fourth quarter, including two by freshman midfielder David Justen (Vienna, VA/Madison).

The Eagles controlled play with their superior quickness and stick skills and ended the Quakers' three-game winning streak.  Senior attackman Will Gunther (Sykesville, MD/South Carroll) had three points (1g, 2a) for Mary Washington.  Junior midfielder Paul Schutzman (Wading River, NY/Shoreham Wading River) and senior attackman Joe Boulier (Vienna, VA/Madison) each added a goal and an assist.

MacMaster had three goals and four assists by halftime as the Fighting Scots (1-1) controlled play throughout the consolation game.  Sophomore attackman Steve Burton (Shelby Township, MI/Bishop Foley) netted two of his four goals in the first quarter and later added two assists.  Junior attackman Colin Hartnett (Canandaigua, NY/Canandaigua Academy) totalled three goals and two assists.  Wooster outshot Marietta, 50-12, and enjoyed a 10-1 halftime lead.

Sophomore midfielder John Romano (Succasunna, NJ/Roxbury) scored a first-quarter goal for the Pioneers (1-2), who were blanked by Guilford, 18-0, in Saturday's first-round matchup.  Marietta junior goaltender Scott Sojda (Hamburg, NY/St. Francis) had 17 saves and eight ground balls, both game highs.
