NONCONFERENCE MEN'S LACROSSE ACTION

NC (03/08/02) - Guilford rookies Mark Fiore (Doylestown, PA/Bridgton
Academy (ME)) and Ed Massello (Roanoke,
VA/Roanoke Catholic) broke a 9-9 tie with back-to-back goals 21 seconds
apart late in the fourth quarter to give lift the host Quakers to an 11-10 win
over visiting DeSales Friday.
Massello
scored his first goal of the game with two seconds left in the third quarter
to give the Quakers (3-1) a 9-7 lead after three periods.
The Bulldogs (1-1) rallied with goals by sophomore midfielder Dave
Mantz (Coplay, PA/Parkland) and rookie midfielder Brian Kuttler
(Doylestown, PA/Archbishop Wood) to force the game's sixth and final tie.
Sophomore attackman Brendan Bray (East Northport, NY/Northport) scored the first of his two goals 21 seconds into the game to give DeSales its only lead of the game. Guilford freshman Tucker Jacobs (West Lebanon, NH/Lebanon) knotted the game 3:27 later and sophomore Chip Hill (Sellersville, PA/Central Bucks West) scored with 10:12 left in the first quarter to give Guilford a lead it would never relinquish.
Guilford
sophomore Josh Miller (Princeton, NJ/Princeton) led all scorers with two
goals and four assists. Fiore finished
with two scores and three assists. Rookie
attackman Bryan Bottini (Westfield, NJ/Westfield) paced the Bulldogs with
three goals and an assist.
Guilford
hosts Marietta, Mary Washington and Wooster in the 2002 Guilford College
Lacrosse Tournament March 16-17.
