GUILFORD POSTS 29-4
MEN'S LACROSSE WIN OVER MISERICORDIA
Greensboro, NC (03/06/02) -- Sophomore attackman Josh Miller (Princeton, NJ/Princeton) scored two goals and a career-high eight assists and rookie linemate Mark Fiore (Doylestown, PA/Bridgton Academy (ME)) added four scores and five helpers in Guilford's 29-4 men's lacrosse win over visiting College of Misericordia (PA) Wednesday.
Miller's career-high 10 points match the sixth-highest single-game scoring performance in Guilford history. His eight helpers rank third on the Quakers' single-game assists lists. Guilford (2-1), which led 18-2 at halftime, scored the second-highest number of goals in a game in the program's 31 seasons. The Quakers' 1992 squad set the school standard for goals with a 30-5 win over Marymount.
The Cougars (0-2) are still
seeking the program's first win in their second varsity season, but set a school
record for most goals in a game. Senior
attackman Nick Sisca (Preston, MD/Sts. Peter & Paul) netted a goal
and an assist. Senior Bill
Dessoye (Pittston, PA/Pittston) went the distance in goal and made 18 saves.
Fiore's 10 points are
the most in a game by a Guilford player since Chris Lang scored four
goals and six assists versus Shenandoah in 1994.
Sophomore attackman Justin Blanchette (Westfield, MA/Westfield)
scored a game- and career-high five goals, including a natural hat trick in the
first quarter. Freshman attackman Matt
Wagner (Mill Valley, CA/Marin Catholic) (4 goals, 2 assists) and sophomore
attackman Chip Hill (Sellersville, PA/Central Bucks West) (3 goals, 2
assists) also set personal scoring standards.
Rookie midfielder Abdul-Qawiy Abdul-Karim (New York, NY/George School
PA) scored his first college goal and picked up a game- and career-high 10
ground balls. Senior captain Jason Capen (New Baltimore, MI/University-Liggett),
a converted goaltender, netted his first two college goals.
