GAUTHIER LIFTS GUILFORD TO  MEN'S LACROSSE WIN OVER RICHARD STOCKTON

Greensboro, NC (03/13/01) -- Senior attackman Jason Gauthier's (Kernersville, NC/Skaneateles (NY)) goal 44 seconds into overtime gave Guilford a thrilling 10-9 come-from-behind men's lacrosse win over visiting Richard Stockton Tuesday. The win gives the Quakers their first 3-0 start since 1992, while Stockton falls to 0-2.

After Guilford won the opening face-off of overtime, Guilford settled into its offense but had the ball checked loose in front of the goal. Stockton senior goalie Doug Mineur (High Bridge, NJ/Voorhees) came a couple feet out of his cage to pick up the ball, but could not get possession in the midst of many players. The ball trickled out to an unmarked Gauthier who shot the ball past a fallen Mineur.

Senior midfielder Kevin Dawyskiba (Norwell, MA/Norwell) made the winning goal possible by scoring two of his career-high three goals in the final 2:11 of regulation to tie the game at 9-9. Ospreys junior midfielder Marc McKinney (Swarthmore, PA/Ridley) stopped a 3-0 Guilford run with back-to-back goals in a 28-second span and gave the guests a 9-7 edge with 2:54 remaining. Dawyskiba scored a fast-break goal with 2:11 left and tied the game for the fifth and final time 53 seconds later with a bounce shot from about 15 yards out.

After McKinney won the ensuing face-off for Stockton, junior attackman Brian Druker (Edison, NJ/Edison) had a close-range shot with 40 seconds left that Quakers' netminder Anthony Roman (New York, NY/Mt. St. Mary Academy) deflected wide of the goal.

McKinney finished with a game-high five goals, including the Ospreys' last three tallies. Sophomore attackman Jim Dunn (Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) scored two of his three goals in the first half and helped Stockton to an early 3-1 lead.

Gauthier, senior midfielder Matt Synowiez (West End, NC/Easton (MD)) and rookie attackman Josh Miller (Princeton, NJ/Princeton) each scored twice for Guilford. Gauthier added two assists. Roman made 12 saves, seven in the second half.
